Cristóbal Mena | Senior Resilience Consultant

Hello there! I am a seasoned professional with more than a decade of experience in Disaster Risk Reduction, Emergency Preparedness & Response (EP&R), International Development, and leadership roles. My diverse background in both public and private sectors has equipped me with a unique set of skills and expertise that I bring to my work.

Currently, as a Senior Disaster Risk Management Specialist Consultant at The World Bank, my primary responsibility is to aid in identifying and preparing technical cooperation for the GFDRR’s Emergency Preparedness & Response and Health Systems Resilience Global Programs.

Aside from my position at The World Bank, I also serve as a Technical Advisor for Catholic Relief Services, specializing in Resilience, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), and Food Security for Latin America and The Caribbean.

Throughout my career, I have held various high-ranking positions, one of which was Deputy National Director at the Chilean National Emergency Office (ONEMI). During my tenure, I had the privilege of spearheading the strategic planning process and implementing crucial policies for effective risk governance. One such policy was Law 21.364, which established the Chilean Disaster Risk Management system, and the National Policy for Disaster Risk Reduction 2020-2030.

I am highly passionate about teaching and training, as demonstrated by my extensive experience as a visiting lecturer at the MBA program of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, as well as my involvement in undergraduate courses at the Universidad del Desarrollo and Rabdan Academy. Furthermore, I am regularly invited to speak at various seminars and conferences.

I’m proud to have achieved a Chevening UK Scholarship, which has played a significant role in my professional development. Additionally, I had the opportunity to attend JICA training in Japan as a beneficiary, where I learned about Raising Awareness for Reducing Disaster Risk.

I possess a strong track record of delivering results and am deeply committed to continuous sustainable development, learning, and professional growth. My skills and experience can effectively contribute to enhancing the resilience and sustainability of your organization.
